In what can be described as ‘annual ritual’, parts of the Confluence City of Lokoja is presently flooded as River Niger overflow its bank.
Our Correspondent who visited some of the affected areas around Old market, Kabawa and Ganaja village described the natural disaster a “pathetic reoccurrence”.
As at the time of filing this report, many residents have vacated their homes in search of shelter.
Khadijat Ibrahim a resident of Ganaja village who spoke to our reporter solicited for government’s support because “it is no longer funny”.
According to Khadijat, “we have continued to suffer similar fate every year with little or no support from the government.
“We are urging Kogi state government to come to aid and resettle us (the affected victims) pending when the water level return to normal. We have lost properties worth millions of naira and it is no longer funny,” she lamented.
Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state is a flood prone area which recorded a worst case scenario in 2012.
